THE S.O.S. WOUNDED MINNOW
The S.O.S. (swims on side) Wounded Minnow was created by James Heddon's son Charles Heddon in 1928. The largest of four sizes was 41⁄2", and featured a curved side shape with the weight of the hooks holding it in an injured position.
This lure was designed to attract large game fish, Large Mouth Bass, Great Northern, Salmon, Walleye and Muskie.
From the advertising "Retrieve the bait slowly, alternate the retrieve with short quick jerks. The special curve in this bait causes the two propellers to rise partly out of the water thus making a purring sound and a surface commotion which is particularly luring".
All lures come in an attractive wood presentation box, with a written history and a copy of the original patent drawing.
