THE DILLINGER
In 1930 William F. Egar began making wood fish lures out of his home in Bartow Florida. One of these lures he called the “Florida Special”. It had paint stripes on it’s sides and dots around it’s eyes. The locals called this lure “THE DILLINGER” because it reminded them of the stripes on John Dillinger’s ( the gangster) prison uniform and it killed the fish!
Egar adopted the name for a series of lures which as his 1937 patent applies to the design of” An artificial lure characterized by the elliptical arrangement of the dot’s around the eyes in combination with bands of color applied to the body”. Yes ! The patent was for the paint pattern !
All lures come in an attractive wood presentation box, with a written history and a copy of the original patent drawing.
